Christopher Powers Guimond, Ph.D., is Professor of Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies at the University of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez

His book 4645, on the protests in summer 2019 in Puerto Rico, was published in 2020, and its translation into Spanish, 4645: Crónica del Verano Boricua (con coda añadida), in 2023 by Editora Educación Emergente. His essay “Uncanny Voices in the Archive” on Edgardo Rodríguez Julía appeared in the anthology Encuentros en el territorio Rodríguez Julía (2021), which he co-edited with Beatriz Cruz Sotomayor. His recent writing on Puerto Rican literature and culture have appeared in such venues as Centro Journal, Diálogos, Cruce, el roommate, and Nuevos horizontes among others. His interviews with writers and scholars such as Marta Aponte Alsina, Jorell Meléndez Badillo and Julio Ramos, among others, appear in Master’s in Cultural and Humanistic Studies (@MaestriaESCH). He has been an activist in diverse social justice movements.

He is currently active in ¡Defiende a Cabo Rojo! — a community coalition opposed to the ecocidal “Esencia,” a massive development project in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, where he lives. His next work is a photographic chronicle of the coastal ecology of Cabo Rojo.
